Are You Ready to Take the Leap to Your Own Business?
Making the decision to start a new business can be really exciting. But before you start signing paperwork and designing logos, you will want to think through the possible consequences, challenges, and sacrifices to come as a result of starting a new enterprise.
Do you have a reliable support team in place?
It is one thing to come up with a great idea for a business. Moving forward from that point is another matter. To get ready, you need to do some planning and decision-making.
If you are willing to do whatever it takes, if you have the right tools in place, if you build the right team, you will be able to enjoy the freedom and satisfaction of starting your own company. Without those things, you will be traveling a rough road to success, or worse.
Every business idea is unique. However, there are universal challenges and concerns that every business owner faces. Having certain key elements in place can help you meet those challenges and save you time, money, effort and your sanity. Stepping outside of your comfort zone will also seem a lot less scary.
In the beginning, unless you are fully capitalized to afford all of the key people and systems you need up front, you are going to have to wear many hats in your business.
Are you ready to make tough choices with limited resources? How do you know how much you need, what is enough to get started? How to survive until the revenue starts to flow in?
Who are the key people that you should not live without?
If you are on your own, are you prepared to be the Entrepreneur, the Manager and the Technician – do you even know what that means?
Do you have a business plan? If not, why not? What is the road map to your destination?
Don’t miss steps. Know who you are, where you want to go, why you want to go there, what “there” is there and how to know when you have arrived.
Every business has many moving parts. You need to be ready to handle each of those parts, know how they work and how they contribute to the growth of your business. Your business is a journey that has lots of twists and turns.
Following the key steps in an order that moves you in the right direction, and getting the support you need, when you need it, will prepare you to create a business that actually gives you more freedom and a lifestyle that you really want.
Create the map that keeps you on the path and go forth!
You really make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find this topic to be actually something which I think I would never understand. It seems too complex and very broad for me. I am looking forward for your next post, I will try to get the hang of it!

Well, first, I would say that there is “nothing new under the sun”, in that I believe that many of these are common-sense principles and there are a lot of resources out there that help entrepreneurs get where they want to go. I can also say that I have drawn from my 25 years as a lawyer, business adviser, entrepreneur and C-Suite executive in the 10 businesses that I have personally started, managed and expanded throughout my career.
